Just a reminder that we are open until 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday night for some stress free shopping.  As usual we will be serving some adult beverages and treats.  Our neighbor Sewn will also be open,  so stop by.  If anything else, the relaxing atmosphere makes it worth it.

HATS, HATS AND MORE HATS…..

B-Jeweled received a HUGE shipment today of AWESOME hats from San Diego Hat Company; all types  including several different styles of the FEDORA, the most flattering hat on anyone.  Even I look good in a Fedora and that says something.  We received caps with bows, cadet caps, pleated caps,  and the list goes on…We also received knitted headbands and gloves.  These were so popular last year that we sold out in 2 days.  So if any of the above interests you, please stop in.

 

FRIDAY NIGHT SHOPPING AT B-JEWELED THROUGHOUT DECEMBER

B-Jeweled, and our neighbor’s “Moss &Moss” and “Sewn” will be open every Friday night in December from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, for some fun, stress free, holiday shopping.  All of us (we like to refer to ourselves as the Sunnyside Merchants Association), sell unique gifts that differ from eachother, and most importantly, are very AFFORDABLE.   We will also be serving a little “vino” and appetizers in all our stores.  So stop by, and enjoy a fun, festive and stress free shopping environment.  It beats the “Village.”  We look forward to seeing you and thank you for supporting our businesses.

BLOOD DONORS ARE TRUE HEROES

I never really gave donating blood much thought.  Most likely because I am not an eligible donor.  My whole attitude changed 1 year ago today when I went in for what was to be a routine surgery that turned into a major one.  Without getting into details, I lost the majority of my blood, resulting in a massive transfusion of 22 units of red blood, fresh frozen platelets, and plasma.  I was in surgery for most of the day, and almost died.  When I thanked the surgeon, his response was, “I didn’t save your life, the blood did and then the anesthesiologist.   I have never forgotten those 22 people who saved my life and the driver for Blood Banks of the Pacific who rapidly got the blood to the hospital.  Not a day has passed that I haven’t thought about those 22 people.

For those of you who don’t know, hospitals don’t just have units of blood hanging around.  Every unit is accounted for per need in specific surgical procedures.

My point is that when the “chips are down” so to speak in my case, there is no amount of money that could save a person if there is no blood available.  Donating blood is greater than any financial donation.  Every person who takes the time to donate blood is giving someone like myself life.  Our blood banks are so dependent on these donors; as they are called every 56 days to donate blood.  California always has a shortage of blood especially during the holidays.

I now sponsor 3 blood drives per year.  The next is on Nov 12, 2011.  It is very difficult recruiting new donors.  I ask all who read this to possible take 1 hour out of your Saturday and give a donation that costs nothing but your time. Yet it is worth more than any monetary donation.
